Football
It’s a 2 handed show this time around as Earl, like his hero Conor McGregor is keeping a low profile for a little wheel. We get straight into talking all about this week’s Champions League fixtures. The business end of the tournament has thrown up some great matches so far, and here’s hoping that continues into the Quarter Finals.
The draw for said round is as follows
Wolfsburg v Real Madrid: For Madrid, Wolfsburg are one of only two teams they could have drawn against whom they have a reasonable chance of winning. Jammy so and sos.
Bayern Munich v Benfica: Must be nice being Guardiola. From on the way home, to an all but guaranteed semifinal spot.
Barcelona v Atlético Madrid. Atletico last beat Barc nearly 2 years ago in the CL but in the 7 matches since Barca have won 6 and there’s been a draw.
PSG v Manchester City: PSG should have the class to see this one through against a depleted Man City defense.
Europa League
Man United vs Liverpool 1-1 (1-3 agg) sees Liverpool through to the last eight and Utd facing a season of nothing pain and anguish.
Europa League quarter-final draw:
Braga (Por) v Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukr)
Villarreal (Spa) v Sparta Prague (Cze)
Athletic Bilbao (Spa) v Sevilla (Spa)
Borussia Dortmund (Ger) v Liverpool (Eng) – BD second placed in Bundesliga, five points behind leaders Munich, a position identically mirrored by their opponents in the previous round, Spurs, whom they managed to beat both home and away and are a team that Klopp recently described as “…the world’s strongest team”.
Rugby
England have already won but in order to claim the slam, have to beat the French in Paris.
Ireland up against it with an in-form Scotland coming to town. Between Paddy’s Day and the Scots, there’ll be a lot of fancy dress on display in Dublin this weekend.
What can Ireland reasonably expect? If we win and get third place, we get a greater amount of the financial package available which is good. We’ve suffered hugely re. Injuries but a lot of new caps have come thru’. Is Dessie happy? Can he ever again look at rugby with passion or is it forever a wilted spring flower, drooped in his ageing hand?
Formula 1
As the 2016 is upon us, we have a brief discussion about some rule changes including a ban on certain radio messages, and ‘halos’ for the drivers.
