Review of COB’s Tips from Last Week
Each week on this very website, COB gives us his unparalleled insight into the goings on in the English Premier League. This week was another disaster for our self proclaimed ‘senior football analyst’. These were his picks from last week, and the results:
Aston Villa v Crystal Palace
Palace to win at 31/20……Aston Villa won this one
Wednesday 13th January
Manchester City v Everton
A dicey Everton win at 29/5……..No luck here either!
Liverpool v Arsenal
Arsenal to win at 29/20…..A last ditch Joe Allen goal condemned Cob to an 0-3 week.
Rob’s shout of a red card between Barcelona and Espanyol was also off the mark, but there were 7 yellow cards, so close enough!
Lazy Yaya, Conspiracies and Transfer Bans in Madrid
We chat a little bit about the following article which suggests Yaya Toure of Manchester City doesn’t get stuck in as much as he should.
Cob tells us that Rafa might have been Zidane’s fall guy at Real Madrid, and both Real and Atletico can’t make any transfers until Summer 2017.
Angry Cyclists and UFC Boston
We discuss former cyclist and doping investigator Paul Kimmage’s dislikes, which include UFC, as laid out in this article.
Our MMA guru, Carl ‘The Delerious’ Fitzsimons gives us a preview of the Dillishaw-Cruz fight which takes place in Boston this weekend.
IAAF Doping Report
Dick Pound, whose report damns IAAF governance, insists he “can’t think of anyone better” than Coe to lead it.
“I think it’s a fabulous responsibility for the IAAF to seize this opportunity and, under strong leadership, to move forward,” said Pound.
“There’s an enormous amount of reputational recovery that needs to occur here and I can’t think of anyone better than Lord Coe to lead that.”
Golf
Rob gives his thoughts on the Sony Open in Hawaii this weekend. He gives some long shot each way bets that should give a tidy return if they can creep into the top 5.
From the US: Golden State Lose, St Louis Rams Heading to LA
Golden State lost last night to the Denver Nuggets now 36-3 and can only tie the 1996 Bulls first half record.
The St Louis Rams are moving back to LA and have to pay the NFL a $550m relocation fee.
The Rams have played in LA before, first moving there from Cleveland in 1946. They left for Anaheim in 1980, before moving to St Louis in 1995.
They are the only franchise to claim three NFL championships in three different cities, winning Super Bowl XXXIV in the 1999 season.
The Rams will play their home games at the LA Coliseum until their £1.29bn ($1.86bn) stadium in Inglewood is complete.
This Week’s Picks and the Betting Challenge
The betting challenge….we each get 100 credits with 5 to spend a week. Let’s see who prevails!
Cob’s Football Picks are as follows:
Saturday 16th January
15.00 Chelsea v Everton
Everton to win
Sunday 17th January
14.05 Liverpool V Manchester United
Liverpool to win
16.15 Stoke v Arsenal
Arsenal to win
Rob picked a draw between Valencia and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga for 2 units as well as one each on his golf picks. Rayo are 19th and not 9th as Rob said. When did they get that bad?!
